Virtual Reality Exposure Therapy (VRET)

Virtual Reality Exposure Therapy (VRET) uses controlled immersive environments to support exposure-based treatment for trauma and anxiety. CCC is monitoring this developing treatment avenue rather than presenting it as a routine current modality.

What it is

Virtual Reality Exposure Therapy (VRET) extends exposure-based psychotherapy by using computer-generated environments to help a person engage with trauma- or fear-related cues in a controlled clinical setting.

What it may address

Research has examined VRET for PTSD and other anxiety-related conditions. It may be relevant when immersive, graded exposure could support engagement with trauma-focused work.

What to expect

Where used, VRET should be delivered by appropriately trained clinicians within a structured treatment plan, with attention to readiness, safety, informed consent, symptom monitoring, and the evidence base for the individual presentation.

How CCC uses it

CCC is actively considering VRET and related technology-assisted trauma approaches as part of its continuing review of treatment avenues worth exploring. It should not be understood as a routine current service unless specifically confirmed during assessment and treatment planning.
